Nestled under the gum trees by the creek, two-bedroom Glen Morris, 6km north of Clare, offers peace and seclusion.
Rate includes:
Generous locally-sourced cooked breakfast provisions Firewood Port Quality linen Fully made-up beds Electric Blankets Courtyard/dog enclosure Fire Pit outside Gas BBQ Pot Belly stove Well-stocked separate kitchen Separate breakfast parlour with French doors to terrace Full oven, stove top and microwave Verandah Peaceful country views (no other dwelling in sight)
Situated on 35 ha of rolling hills, the heritage-style cottage enjoys stunning, unimpeded views of hundred-year-old gum trees.
During winter you can curl up in front of the pot belly stove and read a book, or toast marshmallows over an open fire, outdoors.
In all weathers the beautiful property has something to offer. Enjoy meandering walks through the trees or let the kids run free, and the dogs off-leash to romp on the grassy slope.
Provisions for a cooked breakfast are provided (local bacon, farm eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes) and can be eaten in the dedicated breakfast parlour. Alternatively, you can walk through the French doors onto the back slated courtyard and enjoy more lovely, unimpeded vistas of trees and paddocks from the table and chairs by the secure (yet discreet) dog run.
The charming, character master bedroom with its white-washed walls and Edwardian dressing table has a queen-sized bed with Posturpedic mattress. The view through the window overlooks a swathe of gum trees.
The second bedroom has two singles and overlooks the front verandah. (Some couples like to put their children to bed before retiring around an open fire a few metres down the slope beneath the gum trees. Childish cries can easily be heard while parents can enjoy some outdoors respite.)
No other building or road blocks the country views in all directions.
BOOKING NOTE: Children under 17 are charged at $30 per night while those under 2 are free.
COSY COMFORT
Linen and electric blankets are provided while a pot belly stove and reverse cycle air-conditioning keep the slate-floored sitting room comfortable, year-round.
Foxtel provides inside entertainment while outdoors, guests can take advantage of abundant firewood for a bonfire on the slope between the cottage and the creek bed. There's also a gas BBQ.
Dogs love it and birdlife is plentiful, including a variety of parrots, and kangaroos are seen most days.
Restaurants, wineries and an 18-hole golf course are easily accessible. Clare township offers good shopping facilities while the Clare Valley is noted for its fine wines, excellent wineries, scenic drives and the beauty of its trees and rolling hills. The area has an unspoilt rural charm about it.
For the cyclist or walking trail enthusiast, the popular Riesling Trail follows the old train line between Clare and Auburn (22km). The trail passes close to wineries, restaurants and scenic spots. It is sign posted and the full trail does not have to be negotiated.
